Hall of Firsts
North Carolina Military Hall of Firsts
North Carolina has a long and celebrated military history which dates back to the early history of the founding of our great country. Our servicemen and servicewomen have played, and continue to play, a major role in the defense of our Nation, and to protect our constitutional freedoms, primary of which are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.
The mission of the North Carolina Military Hall of Firsts (NCMHOF) is to publicly emphasize the honor brought to our state and nation by the sacrifice of North Carolina Military Veterans and their families; to promote equal and inclusive opportunities for veterans and their families in all aspects of society; and to identify and support all individuals and organizations that contribute to this important mission.
Honorees to the North Carolina Military Hall of Firsts are to be persons who, by the excellence of their military career in or connection to civic service have brought substantial honor, recognition, and esteem to themselves, their families, and to the Great State of North Carolina.
To that end the Advisory Committee of the Military Hall of Firsts annually selects North Carolinians for induction from nominees submitted from across the country who call The Old North State home.
Any individual who has made direct and exceptional contributions to the US Armed Forces is eligible. Posthumous nominations are also encouraged.
Anyone born in the state North Carolina is eligible for induction into the North Carolina Hall of Firsts unless, in the judgment of the Board, they moved from the state (and never returned to live) at too early an age to be reasonably considered.
Anyone who was not born in the state of North Carolina, but who has moved to North Carolina and has maintained an official residence for five (5) consecutive years shall be eligible.
Basic Nominee Requirements:
- The nominee must have either been born in the state of North Carolina or entered military service from North Carolina, retired from the military in North Carolina or lived in North Carolina for a minimum of five years.
